The third offering from Denison University’s Vail Arts Series featured a one-woman play that tells the story of Marie Anna Mozart, older sister of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Nunnerl, as she was known, was a prodigy in her own right. A keyboardist and composer, she performed side by side with her brother for years as a child with equal acclaim. Tragically, at 17, she faded away largely due to restrictions and prejudices of the day, her story becoming a hidden history.

Through award-winning theater artist, playwright, and actress Sylvia Milo, however, Nunnerl Mozart’s story comes to life in this “multi-sensual” piece centered around an 18-foot dress. Period specific movement, fragrances, sounds, and subtle lighting effects created a truly engaging performance that wowed a packed Eisner Performing Center for the Arts crowd.
