On December 20, 2024, the historic Midland Theatre in Newark, Ohio, became a veritable wonderland of sound, light, and spirit as Luminare Christmas delivered a stellar holiday performance that was fun for all ages. The fesitve holiday crowd gathered in the nearly century-old venue, (in fact, that evening was the theatre’s 96th birthday), ready for a night of sonic splendor. Luminare did not disappoint, weaving together virtuosic musicianship and crisp vocals to timeless holiday classics creating a memorable experience for the capacity crowd.
Luminare is no ordinary holiday ensemble. Led by former Mannheim Steamroller and Dennis DeYoung band keyboardist, John Blasucci, the group was formed with the goal of reimagining the classic holiday concert experience. With a blend of rock, classical, and cinematic arrangements, Luminare’s sound is as dynamic as it is heartwarming. Since its inception, the band has built a loyal following, earning spots on prestigious stages across the country and becoming a staple of the holiday concert circuit.

Sharing the stage with Blasucci, who serves as the band’s arranger, are a very talented crew of musical artists:
- Jeff Anthony, Vocals: Anthony’s smooth, expressive vocals bring fresh energy to holiday standards, engaging listeners with each note.
- Caitlin Simone, Vocals: Caitlin’s lovely mezzo-soprano vocal range brings a wonderful accompaniment to the mix as does her vibrant stage presence.
- Dan Peters Guitar: With dynamic guitar solos and smooth melodic touches, Peters’s range and skill are evident in every performance.
- Marianne Martinoli, Violin: Martinoli’s classical training, flourishing style, and sweeping arrangements add cinematic depth to the performance that transport the audience into a wintry dreamscape.
- Brad Lang, Bass: Brad’s solid groove and smooth, melodic lines create a strong sense of rhythm for the band, and
- Sarah Tomek, Drums: With steady, precise drumming, Tomek’s rhythms and commanding presence add drive and energy to each song.

From the first notes of “The Light That Shines,” the raucous, full-throttle renditions of “Little Drummer Boy,” and “Hark, The Herald Angels Sing;” to heartfelt originals like “You Look Like Christmas,” Luminare’s setlist had something for everyone. Each well-orchestrated piece allowed the band to showcase their collective and individual talents.

Stepping into the Midland Theatre feels like walking back in time, and it was even more stunning with its abundant holiday decorative flair. Built in 1928 and lovingly restored, the venue’s ornate architecture, velvet seats, intimate acoustics, and state of the art stage lighting create a space where every note resonates with clarity; and every performance comes to life. For a holiday show like Luminare’s, the theater’s warm ambiance served as the perfect canvas for the spectacle of light and sound on display.

The crowd’s energy was palpable throughout the evening. Young and old alike were mesmerized for the nearly two-hour performance and on their feet for the encore, as Luminare closed with an exhilarating medley of holiday favorites.

Luminare’s holiday show at the Midland Theatre was a masterclass in musical storytelling, weaving familiar classics and fresh originals into inspired and upbeat arrangements. Their virtuosic performances, combined with the magical setting of the Midland, created a night that audience members will carry with them throughout the holiday season. If you have the chance to catch Luminare on their next stop, do not miss it. It’s more than a concert—it’s an experience. Luminare’s holiday tour continues with a final stop December 21st in Lafayette, IN. Keep an eye on their website for all future tour dates and ticket information.
